LocatedinJixianCity,duletempleisoneofthefirstbatchofkeyculturalrelicsprotectionunitsinChina,andisafamousancienttemplewithahistoryofthousandsofyears.Duletemplewasbuiltinthe10thyearofZhenguanreignofEmperorTaizongofTangDynasty(636AD),andrebuiltinthe2ndyearofTonghereignofLiaoDynasty(984AD).DuringthereignofWanli,Shunzhi,QianlongandGuangxuintheMingDynasty,Zhaobiwasbuiltinthe18thyearofQianlong(1753A.D.),thedoubleeavesofGuanyinPavilionwereadded,andfoureavespillarsweresetupatthetopandbottom,andtheeasternpalaceofthetemplewasbuilt.Duletemplecoversatotalareaof16000squaremeters.Thegateisthreeroomswideandfourroomsdeep.Therearetwofloorsupanddown,withaflatanddarkfloorinthemiddle.Theheightis23meters.Itistheoldesthigh-risewoodenpavilionbuildinginChina.
ThetemplegateandGuanyinPavilionwerebuiltinLiaoDynasty,andotherswerebuiltinMingandQingDynasty.Thelayoutandstructurearequitepeculiar.Thearchitectureofthewholetempleisdividedintothreeparts:theEast,themiddleandtheWest;theEastandtheWestarerespectivelythemonk'shouseandthepalace;themiddlepartisthemainbuildingofthetemple,whichiscomposedofBaishangate,GuanyinPavilion,Eastandwestauxiliaryhall,etc.betweenthemountaingateandthemainhall,thecorridorisconnected.AllthesereflectthecharacteristicsofthearchitecturallayoutofBuddhisttemplesinTangandLiaodynasties.
Duletemplepalace,builtin1753,isalsoknownasQianlongpalace.ItistheplacewheretheemperorsofQingDynastytookarestontheirwaytovisitDonglingmausoleum.ItisalsotheonlypalaceinTianjin.Thereisonefloorofthemainhallandthreesubsidiarybuildingsinthepalace.Nowthereare14cloistersandoneverticalflowergate,makingthepalaceanindependentcourtyard.AlltheemperorsafterQianlongcametothepalaceofduletempleandleftalotofpoemspraisingthetemple.Thenewlyaddedexhibitioninthepalaceincluded12impromptuworksoftheQingemperorand17portraitsofempressesandconcubinesrelatedtothepalace.
ItissaidthattheduletemplewasbuiltbyaneminentsaintofLuban,soJizhoubuiltatempletocommemoratethisfounder.Lubantempleislocated300metersnortheastofduletemple,whichistheonlyoneinChina.Duletemplehasexperiencedthousandsofyearsofwindandrainerosion,wardisaster,andmorethan30earthquakes.ItisamiracleinthehistoryofChinesearchitecture.
